Buying A Laptop On A Budget - Five Important Things That You Must Consider First

Laptop computers are getting smaller and more advanced every day. Fortunately, prices have been coming down as well. While that is great news for consumers, it doesn't change the fact that for most shoppers, a new laptop represents a large purchase - and most large purchases are made on a strict budget. Fortunately, it's fairly simple to get the most bang for your buck while making sure that yournew laptop has all the features that you need and doesn't become quickly outdated. The key to buying a laptop on a budget is weighing needs versus wants in five main areas: size, screen, GPU, CPU, and RAM.

Size

For most shoppers laptop size is a matter of personal preference, but when buying a laptop on a budget, size can be a major deal-breaker because a specific size preference may not be in the budget - no matter which features you give up. The most economical laptops weigh in the 6- to 8-pound range. Laptops outside of this range are usually specifically designed to meet other criteria (like an ultra portable at 3 pounds, or a desktop replacement that rivals the power of a desktop), and thus they carry a premium. Stick to the mid-sized laptops, and your small budget will stretch that much further for the other components.

Screen

Screen size and laptop size are fairly dependent on each other, so if you stick to mid-sized laptops, there won't be many options for the LCD screen. While that may not seem like great news, the 15-inch screen that comes on most mid-sized laptops is more than adequate for most uses; and if this is not sufficient, then for stationary usage it is usually possible to attach a standard desktop monitor to the laptop to increase your screen real estate. If you have a desktop already (as most people do), you probably have a very capable monitor already on your desk; make sure to confirm with your retailer that using a separate monitor is possible on the laptop that you have chosen.

GPU

The video card (or GPU - graphics processing unit) is the component that actually renders the images that appear on the screen. There are generally only two options for this component, but whenbuying a laptop on a budget you really only have one choice - shared video. Now certainly the other option, a dedicated video card, produces far better results under demanding conditions; but shared video, where the video card actually shares the RAM of the computer versus having its own, is perfectly fine for daily use and is certainly more affordable. It is important to note that a shared video card generally will not play current computer video games, so if that is important to you, it's probably best to wait until you have more money; or instead use your laptop budget to buy a more affordable desktop that can handle playing a graphics-intensive game.

CPU

The CPU is one area where you can really save some money! Don't get caught up in the hype of the newest processor on the market; it's easy to feel pressure to buy the latest and greatest technology so your laptop isn't obsolete the day afterpurchase, but with the central processing unit, or CPU, you can safely go a few steps down from the current processor to save some major cash. You likely won't even notice that you have made a compromise, and this will give you some money to put into other areas of the laptop.

RAM

The RAM, or random access memory, gives your laptop thinking power. If you have ever experienced delays when accessing programs, or annoying freezes when trying to do too many things at once, you have witnessed a computer begging for more RAM. Mid-range laptops often come with 256 MB of RAM. With this was once sufficient, 1 GB is now more suitable due to more advanced applications. But don't worry - RAM is one area that you can usually upgrade later. If adding the RAM to your system during the shopping process doesn't make economic sense, you might consider buying more RAM later either online or at a local box store - simply make your laptoppurchase now, and save up to add more RAM later. Either way, adding more RAM will generally give you a better overall experience, and you won't feel as if you bought a budget-conscious laptop after all.

The laptop-buying experience should be fun and exciting, but if you are buying on a budget, unless you shop carefully you could wind up feeling as if you bought an inferior, outdated product. It's easy to avoid these feelings by simply making sure that you get the things that you really need, and avoiding some of the more expensive but nonessential 'wants.' Most importantly, take your time, do your research, and feel very comfortable with your finalpurchase. A budget-priced laptop can take you well into the future, without leaving you with an empty wallet!

How to Choose a Gaming Laptop

Laptops traditionally have been a no go area for gamers. However, in recent years times have changed, from a business man play toy in the 1990s the next generation of gaming laptops have the raw power to cope with the most hungry of 3d gaming and graphic intensive software applications.
With the obvious advantage of unique portability the gaming laptop is certain to gain a big slice in the gaming hardware market in the next few years with many PC users opting for a more versatile approach to playing PC games and the booming market of online games. Technology is changing even month by month but by reading the guide you should be able to grasp the basic understanding of what you should be looking for when choosing a gaming laptop.

Processor Power
The engine of any laptop. The processor or CPU is one of the most vital components of a gaming laptop and you should be looking for a duel core processor, expensive yes but will stand you in good stead in the forthcoming months. If you cannot afford a duel core then a minimum of a 1.8mhz processor is what you should be looking at.

Random Access Memory (RAM)
Often overlooked and forgotten about, RAM combined with the processor is pivotal in a gaming laptop. The bottom line is if you have a cutting edge CPU but only 256mb of RAM or even 512mb then you are seriously limiting your gaming laptop performance. Go for at least 1mb of RAM and even better for the all important frames per second count get 2mb.

Graphics Card
This is where you have a decision to make. The big difference between a laptop and a desktop PC is the upgrade ability of your graphics card. In your desktop it is easy to upgrade your video card but inside a laptop it is difficult and often needs a pc engineer to carry out this process. Most standard laptops come with a onboard graphics card and you must expect to pay for a top end card such as a Radeon or Geforce.

Screen Clarity
Wide screen is recommended for gamers but do not compromise on screen quality. 17inch screen will help with those long gaming sessions and a good tip for when you are looking at laptops is to use the machine for a few minutes to see if your comfortable with the clarity and image quality of the laptop screen.

Battery Life
With raw graphic power busting out of your laptop you will need make sure your battery is up to the job. Lithium-ion battery that lasts up to 5 to 6 hours is ideal if your are looking to use your machine away from a wired power source.

Gaming laptop prices
Expensive. There is no point hiding this fact, if you compromise on CPU, RAM or video card then you will not have a gaming laptop at all, just a regular laptop with some costly components inside. Expect to pay nearly a third more for your gaming laptop compared to a normal spec machine.

Some sell their used computer instead of throwing them as a trash get some money from them, while others sell theirused computers to buy new computers with the latest features and technology. Not only individuals sell their used computers, but also large numbers of organizations or firms sell their used computers. They do so because the computer systems may require maintenance and repairs, after some time due to the decrease in performance seen in the computers after some years. Instead of spending more money on the maintenance and repairs they sell and gain money, as there is a great demand forused computers. Such companies easily sell their used computers online through auctions or exchange for new computers with less effort in no time.

Used computers are bought by either students who do not have good savings or earnings or they are bought by educational institutions like the schools and universities. Why It Is Especially Important That You Backup Files On Your Laptop

The mobility afforded by laptop computers makes it very popular for most people around the world. If you have a laptop, you can actually work anywhere you like without much trouble. You can even work in the park or at your favorite coffee shop if you want to.
With the growing demand for laptops all over the globe, this technology is currently evolving at such a very fast pace. Every now and then, manufacturers would churn out some improved versions of the laptops with more sophisticated features. Unfortunately, even though this technology is improving very fast, there are still many things that people who are using laptops need to contend with.

Some of the most notable problems that laptop users often experience are that sometimes; they could not access their hard drives, they have trouble booting or that their laptops are making those funny noises while they are using them. Such problems could actually lead to hard drive failures and loss of data.
Recovering data from your laptop could be more complicated than recovering data from your desktop computer. Note that a laptop is compact and lightweight thus it will need special parts to go with it. Moreover, a laptop is sealed so that it would be more difficult to gain access to the insides of this machine than with the desktop. In the event where you experience troubles with your laptop, if would be a good idea to bring it to the authorized service center for check up.

The technician may need to open up the laptop to find out what is wrong with it. It is not advisable for you to open your laptop on your own especially if you have no special knowledge in laptop technology. The danger with experimenting on your laptop by opening it and tinkering with the parts inside is that you could actually damage the system and lose all your files.

Some system damage could be irreparable so don't tinker with the system if you are not sure of what you are doing. Another reason why you should never attempt to open your laptop on your own is that laptops are very sensitive to dusk. If dust gets into you're the systems of your laptop, this could really wreck havoc on the systems. Laptops should only be opened in certain places where they could be protected from dust and other particles. Otherwise, you could seriously compromise the systems if you just open it without taking precautions.

When it comes to important files on your laptop, it would be wise to back up your files periodically. Remember that the mobile nature of the laptop makes it more susceptible to damage so you should be better prepared for any eventualities. You can burn important files to CDs, the USB drive or in one of those large capacity external drives which you can easily attached to the ports in your laptop.

Choosing Right Battery for Your Laptop

Laptops usually consume more power and the batteries should be lightweight and small to fit easily into the laptop. With a typical battery, your laptop can run for about ninety minutes. This will not be sufficient, as you may have to use your laptop frequently while on the move. You can use large and heavier batteries to solve this problem.

Laptop batteries are designed specific to the make and model of the laptop. Thus you require the appropriate battery for your laptop. Depending on the type of battery, the life of the battery will vary. However there are some common features that differ from the normal batteries used for household purposes: Laptop batteries can be recharged. They have many internal cells and there is a small PCB within each laptop battery. The location and shape of terminals vary across different models; Similar to all batteries, electrochemical reaction is created which forces a stream of electrons that traverse from one position to another in thelaptop batteries and there are negative and positive terminals which send and receive electrons. However, rechargeable batteries are more complex than normal batteries as the power that is produced by the electrochemical reaction must be reversible. Therefore you should take care when recharging, for ensuring that they perform better.

Today there are many battery manufacturers who supply compatible batteries to Laptop makes such as IBM, HP-Compaq, Dell, Acer, Sony, Toshiba and Apple. There are three types oflaptop batteries available in the market today. Before you plan to purchase, you should know the difference among them to decide on the right type of battery for your laptop.

NiCd (Nickel Cadmium) batteries were the first rechargeable batteries available for laptops. As they delivered a high output and the cost was also low, most manufactures earlier preferred them. Now they are not available widely as replacements have come that are much lighter with better performance.

NiMH (Nickel Metal Hydride) batteries can still be used in the older laptop models. They are more reliable than the NiCd batteries due to their higher output. The NiMH batteries are also safe to use and also cheaper to manufacture. The only disadvantage is the memory effect in the NiMH batteries, as it can rememberthe battery discharge levels and gives varying performance if the battery is not fully discharged.

LiON (Lithium Ion) batteries are currently used in laptops of latest models. LiON batteries have no memory effect compared to the NiMH batteries and are also lighter than both the above types oflaptop batteries. Thus, Lithium Ion Batteries have become more popular and also expensive because of these advantages. If you can afford for the Lithium Ion battery, this is the best solution; you can go for a compatible NiMH battery if you have budget limitations.

A number of specialist battery manufacturers supply batteries to laptop companies based on the specifications, design and configurations for a particular model and quality terms agreed. Even the power requirements and available space for installingthe battery vary from a laptop model to another and hence the laptop manufacturers order suitable battery packs for their various models. When you plan to replacethe battery, you can contact the authorized dealer of your laptop manufacturer to ensure that you get the correct type of replacement.
